On the 5th of May I had the lovely opportunity to interview Mayameen Meftahi to who is such a lovely lady that you can never get bored in her presence! Mayameen met her husband in Egypt, after falling in love at first sight. After flying back to the Uk Mayameen kept in touch and then they got married in Tunisia. Mayameen who was known as “Kelly” at the time stayed in Tunisia for three years and eventually fell pregnant. Mayameen didn’t like Islam at all and as her husband wasn’t that practicing at the time, so the faith didn’t affect her. Until the birth of their first son her husband had become more religious because he wanted to stay closer to his roots and be a good role model for their son. Mayameen had a battle against Islam for 8 years of their marriage and her husband did not once ask her to accept Islam he just kept praying that one day she will change her mind.
Until something changed and Mayameen could no longer hold onto the hate she had for Islam, that she finally found a purpose for herself in her life after going through the trauma of giving birth. Mayameen since then has had three beautiful children and set up an amazing support organisation where she counsels women going through FGM and domestic violence. Mayameen first started this organisation in London but after shifting to Swansea she has set up an amazing support network for many women to and get help. Mayameen is a true inspiration please tune in to watch her interview below.
